The Children Within are forbidden to connect with their inner world and heal their traumatic pasts, their wounded inner child commandeers their sex life in an attempt to be noticed—to finally be seen. To counter their angry child’s reckless use of sex and thwart this cry for help, we strive to restrict sexual expression to one, socially acceptable purpose—procreation. But this repressive use of sex engenders secret perverse outlets—lust, pornography, compulsive masturbation, promiscuity, infidelity, sadomasochism—distortions intended to appease their silenced the child within. They also can totally shut off their sexual energy and become celibate in a dissociated way, which only splits a person off further from his or her true self. And all of these diversions only create more toxic waste in the unconscious, more trauma, and more despair. And all of this just ends up passed on to the next generation, so conveniently created through procreation.
